The Kwathu Konversations, a flagship initiative of the Kwathu Kollective, proudly collaborates with the Copyright Fund (COSOMA) to amplify creativity and innovation across Malawi. This partnership showcases a shared commitment to empowering Malawian creators, innovators, and entrepreneurs by fostering meaningful conversations that spotlight their work and inspire collaboration. Through thought-provoking discussions with industry leaders, the Kwathu Konversations aim to cultivate a deeper understanding of intellectual property, creativity, and economic growth, paving the way for transformative opportunities for Malawian talent. 

Lawi

In the inaugural episode, we are joined by Francis Chris Phiri, Lawi, one of Malawi’s most celebrated musicians. Known for blending traditional Malawian sounds with contemporary influences, Lawi’s music resonates with audiences worldwide. As a Global Ambassador for Mary’s Meals, he uses his platform to advocate for social causes, demonstrating the power of music to drive meaningful change​.

Sharmila

Sharmila, Projects Lead at the renowned Lake of Stars Festival, joins the second episode. With 20+ years of experience in event management, Sharmila shares insights into organizing large-scale festivals that celebrate Malawi’s culture while drawing international acclaim. Her leadership in reviving LOS in 2024 underscores her role as a pivotal figure in Malawi’s creative landscape.

Xandria

Xandria, the founder of House of Xandria, takes the spotlight in episode 3. A celebrated Malawian fashion designer, Xandria turned her passion for design into a thriving business at just 18. Her brand is synonymous with sustainability and social impact, having organized Malawi’s first inclusive fashion show, All Shades of Beauty, which featured designers with disabilities. Her journey epitomizes the resilience and creativity that define Africa’s burgeoning fashion industry.

KBG (Nyali Muzik)

In episode four, KBG, a leader in digital arts and ICT, explores the intersection of technology and creativity. As the founder of Nyali Muzik, KBG has harnessed his technical expertise to produce groundbreaking music and empower Malawi’s youth. He presently works as the official content creator for the President of the Republic of Malawi, and his story exemplifies how digital innovation can transform the arts.

Chaz

The final episode features Chaz Munthali, a Malawian filmmaker based in the United States. Known for productions like Highbrow, Misnomer, and Mushroom Shade, Chaz’s work often tackles social issues and showcases Malawian talent on a global stage. Through his storytelling and directorial finesse, Chaz illuminates the potential of Malawi’s film industry to inspire and provoke change.

Kwathu Konnect

On September 6, 2024, Kwathu Kowork Spaces in Lilongwe buzzed with excitement as we launched Kwathu Konnects. Sponsored by the COSOMA Copyright Fund and NICO, this inaugural event brought together artists, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders. The highlight was the Bants2Business: Creative Garage, featuring a panel on “The Importance of Collaboration for Creativity & Innovation,” followed by a Q&A session. We also released a digital newsletter detailing the project’s journey. Kwathu Konnect events will continue quarterly, fostering a vibrant ecosystem of creativity and innovation in Malawi.
