Career Readiness Workshop Recap | KWATHU KARRERS

On 11th January 2025, Kwathu Kollective, in partnership with the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), successfully hosted the much-anticipated Career Readiness Workshop, which saw a total of 111 attendees—89 joining us online and 22 participating in person—at the Kwathu Kowork Spaces in Lilongwe and virtually via MS Teams. The event brought together students and professionals for a full day of interactive learning, designed to equip attendees with the critical skills needed to transition seamlessly into the professional world.

A Day Filled with Learning and Engagement

The workshop kicked off at 9:00 AM with a warm welcome from the Kwathu Kollective Team, who provided an overview of the day’s schedule and objectives. Attendees were energized and eager to participate in the five key focus areas tailored to address career readiness challenges:

  1. CV Writing and LinkedIn Optimization
    Facilitator: Nthanda Manduwi (Founder, Kwathu Kollective)
    Students learned how to craft standout CVs tailored to specific roles and optimize their LinkedIn profiles for professional branding. Tips on leveraging LinkedIn for networking and visibility left attendees feeling confident about their digital presence.
  2. Capstone Project Introduction & Industry Expectations
    Facilitator: Yamikani Mzumara (IoT Lead, Kwathu Kollective)
    Attendees were introduced to the Capstone Project and gained insights into industry expectations for fresh graduates, setting the stage for career alignment with market demands.
  3. Time Management & Leadership Skills
    Facilitator: Mpho Patricia Bwanali (HR Director, Airtel)
    This session highlighted techniques for prioritizing tasks, managing time effectively, and cultivating leadership skills. Mpho’s practical advice and motivational insights were a highlight for many participants.
  4. Communication & Networking
    Facilitator: Maureen Mahenge (Business Development Expert, Computer Clinic)
    Attendees explored the art of building and maintaining professional relationships while improving their verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Digital Skills & Workplace Technology
    Facilitators: Panji Harawa (ICT Director, Kwathu Kollective) & Innocent Mghogho (Head of Digital Banking, FCB)
    This session explored essential digital tools for productivity and adapting to workplace technologies, preparing students for the tech-driven professional world.
  6. Interview Preparation & Professional Etiquette
    Facilitator: Evodie Musune (MBA—Michigan State University)
    The workshop concluded with insights on mastering interviews and professional behavior, leaving attendees with actionable strategies to succeed in their career pursuits.
