REMOTE JOBS PROJECT (University of Michigan Q&A Meeting) | Kwathu Kowork

The Kwathu Kowork Hub recently served as the venue for the University of Michigan Remote Jobs Project Q&A session. This project is a collaborative training program aimed at empowering individuals with the skills, knowledge, and resources needed to excel in international remote work opportunities. Developed jointly by the University of Michigan (USA) and Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), the project is pioneering interventions to facilitate Malawian freelancers’ participation in the global remote work landscape through Upwork.

Engagement with Participants

During the session, Professor Dean Yang from the University of Michigan engaged directly with the 15 participants of the Remote Jobs Project. These face-to-face discussions provided an invaluable platform for the participants to share their aspirations and challenges as freelancers navigating the Upwork Platform.

The session fostered meaningful dialogue, offering insights into the diverse perspectives and needs of freelancers in Malawi.

The engagement at the Kwathu Kollective Hub facilitated brainstorming sessions, where participants collaboratively explored potential solutions to these challenges. From networking opportunities through mentorship, to targeted skills development programs. A range of actionable strategies were discussed to empower freelancers in Malawi to thrive.
