About Andrew
Andrew Kaimaima is a final-year Computer Systems and Security student at the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) with a strong passion for cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and digital innovation. His academic interests include network security, secure software development, systems design, and digital risk management, all of which are grounded in a desire to use technology to solve real-world challenges.
Throughout his studies, Andrew has developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills, complemented by practical experience in designing, managing, and securing computer systems. His academic training has equipped him with the ability to assess technological risks, implement secure solutions, and approach complex challenges with a structured and innovative mindset.
His Journey at Kwathu
Andrew is currently undertaking his internship with the Kwathu Kollective through the M’mawa Apprenticeship Programme (MAP), a full-time experiential learning initiative that combines professional development with hands-on project experience. Through the programme, he contributes to a range of initiatives spanning Data & AI, Internet of Things (IoT), Robotics, Game Development, and Digital Skills for Africa.
Among his responsibilities, Andrew serves as Team Lead for the Data & AI Project, where he coordinates a team working on the development of a machine learning model for disease detection. This role has provided him with valuable experience in leadership, project management, collaboration, and the practical application of artificial intelligence to address community challenges.
Driven by a commitment to continuous learning and meaningful impact, Andrew approaches every project with curiosity, discipline, and a solutions-oriented mindset. He believes that technology should not only be innovative, but also accessible, secure, and beneficial to the communities it serves. As he continues to grow professionally, Andrew aspires to build a career focused on developing ethical and impactful technology solutions that strengthen organizations, empower communities, and contribute to Africa’s digital future.
