The Green Procurement Workshop, hosted by YvesPro Consult in collaboration with the Ntha Foundation, was held from June 11th to 12th, 2024, in Lilongwe at the Kwathu Kowork Spaces. This event was a significant step forward in fostering sustainable procurement practices within Malawi, highlighting the country’s commitment to green initiatives.
What Is Green Procurement?
Green procurement, also known as sustainable procurement, involves purchasing goods and services with minimal negative environmental impact throughout their lifecycle. It considers environmental, social, and economic factors to reduce harm to the environment and promote sustainable development.
Workshop Details:
Day one: Laying the foundations
The workshop kicked off with welcome remarks and introductions by the Yvespro Marketing Officer and Admin Assistant. The day featured:
- Introductions: Presentations by Yvespro’s Technical Director and the Ntha Foundation, emphasizing their roles in green procurement.
- Sessions: Andy Koloko led an introductory session on green procurement, followed by Gerald Mabveka’s practical insights on integrating green procurement into the procurement process.
Day Two: Deepening the Insights
Day two began with reflections on day one, followed by:
- Challenges: Yvonne Kaphamtengo facilitated a session discussing the challenges of implementing green procurement in Malawi.
- Future Goals: Gerald Mabveka explored how green procurement can support Malawi’s 2063 goals.
- Recap and Closure: Andy Koloko summarized the workshop’s key takeaways, with closing remarks from YesPro Consult and the Tha Foundation.
