Alex Kachepa | KWATHU KOLLECTIVE

Introducing Alex Kachepa: Creative Director and Co-Founder of Kwathu Kollective

At the Kwathu Kollective and Ntha Foundation, there are few people more integral to our journey than Alex Kachepa. A renowned Malawian creative, marketer, and business development specialist, Alex has been with us from the beginning. For over seven years, Alex has worked hand in hand with our founder, Nthanda Manduwi, tirelessly shaping the foundation and bringing to life the bold ideas that define our vision.

As the closest we have to a co-founder, Alex’s journey with the Ntha Foundation has been marked by countless sleepless nights, adventures, and “Eureka” moments—moments that eventually turned into the triumphant “we did it” celebrations. His passion and determination have been instrumental in guiding the foundation from concept to execution, cementing his legacy in our growth story.

“Dizzo”—The Early Days

When the foundation first launched, one of the flagship initiatives was the Management Training Programme. This program was designed to train fresh graduates to become skilled managers. For Alex, managing this program was a defining experience:

“For me, that was the first time actually managing a team, and I learned more within that year than I had learned throughout my career until that point.”

His role challenged him to expand his expertise in people management, business development, and communication, and witnessing the success of these early projects demonstrated the power of bold ideas and courageous action.

Today, Alex reflects on the impact of the work they started:

“Watching events and programmes that began as simple conversations grow into full-fledged initiatives has been inspiring. It’s a constant reminder of the importance of being bold. The graduates of the first cohort of the Management Training Program are now the ones managing the foundation and its activities.”

Creative Director and Future Goals

While Alex is no longer a full-time staff member, he continues to make an impact by sitting on the board as our Creative Director and consulting as a creative trainer and producer. He remains passionate about digital literacy and creative empowerment, knowing that their mutual vision has already touched the lives of many Malawians.

“Our goals and ambitions as an organization have not fully been realized, but I am proud of how far we’ve come. We have been part of elevating digital literacy levels in Malawi and training the next wave of Malawian creatives. I wouldn’t be where I am without the foundation and the shared vision we all believe in.”

We are beyond grateful to Alex for his continued dedication, creativity, and leadership, which continue to shape Kwathu Kollective’s journey forward.
